'The Walking Dead' Universe is Like Juggling Chainsaws, According to Show Boss Scott M. Gimple

Scott M. Gimple is the Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead Universe. As the creative mind behind several television series and movies, he likens his livelihood to “juggling chainsaws.” Here’s why.

Gimple is in charge of numerous properties from the world of ‘The Walking Dead’

Gimple is the architect laying the narrative structure for AMC’s The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, and World Beyond. He is also working on launching two forthcoming series, Tales of the Walking Dead and an untitled spinoff that revolves around fan-favorite characters Daryl and Carol from the original Walking Dead show. Adding to his list of duties, Gimple is behind the much-awaited feature film trilogy that will revisit the narrative of The Walking Dead OG Rick Grimes.

Gimple explained how leading the charge in ‘The Walking Dead’ universe is like juggling chainsaws

The notoriously tight-lipped Gimple spoke with Looper to provide an update on The Walking Dead movie, among other projects. Although the creative head held back on plot details, he did provide insights into what it is like to work behind the scenes on such a high volume of dynamic content.

Luckily, the showrunners themselves are a huge source of support, and then there’s all of the other people I’m working with. But yeah, it’s crazy, and so many things shift. And then this year, everything shifted. The juggling act was like you were juggling those pins, and then they threw in a couple of chainsaws just to make it interesting.

It’s an incredible juggling act, but I will say, in my position, it’s extremely helpful to be dancing between all these things because you can see the connective tissue, and you can see those stories. Whether they go in and out of every show or some of the shows, whether it has to do with the movies or things we’re doing in the future, it is cool to be in the middle of it all.

‘Everything’s changing’ due in part to the COVID-19 pandemic

The Walking Dead cast and crew recently began production on the six season 10 bonus episodes as teased by showrunner Angela Kang during a New York Comic-Con panel. Although the show typically shoots during the summer, she confirmed that the team delayed production until the fall due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Gimple explained to Looper that other plans for The Walking Dead Universe are also in flux due to the effects of the pandemic.

I think it’s probable not to see much crossover in these first movies — but, again, everything’s changing. And this is taking a lot longer now than we expected. I’m just talking from a COVID-19 point of view, this big chunk of time we didn’t anticipate.

I think Robert Kirkman said it best: We’re using this time to really go over it and really road test it and really consider all the different directions we’re going in. So, we’re still in the lab in some ways. We’ve done a lot of work on it, but we’re trying to perfect it at the moment.

Fans can catch The Walking Dead series on AMC and AMC+.

Kaitlyn Bristowe Is Cruella de Vil in 'DWTS' Paso Doble

Dancing With the Stars went spooky for Villains Night — and Kaitlyn Bristowe’s costume couldn’t be more up her alley. The former Bachelorette and proud dog mom channeled Cruella de Vil for a Paso Doble with her partner, Artem Chigvintsev.

“I’ve always loved 101 Dalmatians, but I could not be more opposite than Cruella de Vil,” Kaitlyn said in a pre-dance package, opening up about how she rescued her two dogs, Ramen and Pinot, from South Korea.

Kaitlyn and Artem brought some power to the ballroom as they danced it out to “Disturbia” by Rihanna, which is just what Kaitlyn was hoping to deliver.

“I feel like this is the time to show the judges I can hit those moves harder,” she said, referencing the judges’ comments last week about her having to “attack” her dances more.

The pair’s performance impressed judge Derek Hough, who called the performance a “great way to end the show.”

However, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba wanted more.

“You are a good dancer and I saw you trying really hard tonight. But what didn’t go right was the lift and … it felt like at moments you gave up. I felt like your spirit dropped,” Carrie Ann said. “I don’t want to discourage you, because you are a great dancer, but it was another not great dance of yours.”

“For me, I know you’re very good, but it felt rushed,” Bruno shared.

Kaitlyn and Artem earned a score of 24/30 for their performance.

Kaitlyn and Artem have been killing it week after week on DWTS. Their Samba last week earned them three 9s, for a total of 27/30, and completely surprised Kaitlyn — especially after Carrie Ann critiqued her for holding back when it comes to dancing with her full range of emotions.

“I was not expecting the 9 [from Carrie Ann], so when that happened I was like, ‘OK, now I really want to show her next week that I can do it,” Kaitlyn told ET after the show.

Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.

'Breaking Bad': Bryan Cranston Earned $225,000 Per Episode Playing Walter White, But Was It Enough?

The stars of hit shows can earn some serious salaries in exchange for their services.

All six Friends castmates were making $1 million per episode by the final season, and so were the stars of Seinfeld. Mark Harmon from NCIS was getting paid a whopping $525,000 per episode in 2019. And the notoriously big earner Jim Parsons from The Big Bang Theory made $1 million per episode, too.

Those facts are enough to make Breaking Bad fans wonder how well Bryan Cranston (Walter White) and Aaron Paul (Jesse Pinkman) were compensated for their roles on the hit AMC series. It turns out that compared to some other actors on hit shows, this meth-cooking duo wasn’t making nearly as much.

No one knew how successful ‘Breaking Bad’ would become

These days, shows about suburbanites secretly conducting lives of crime are typical. But back when Breaking Bad showrunner Vince Gilligan was pitching his idea, the whole concept was a huge risk. And he had a hard time getting it picked up.

Both HBO and TNT passed on opportunity to produce the drama series. Gilligan called his HBO pitch the worst of his career, saying it was, “the worst meeting I ever had … The woman we [were] pitching to could not have been less interested—not even in my story, but about whether I actually lived or died,” Mental Floss reported.

Showtime was interested, but thought it was too similar to another of their products, Weeds. And then finally AMC agreed to tell Walter White’s story.

Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul aren’t television’s top earners

Business Insider reported that Cranston brought home $225,000 per episode on Breaking Bad while Paul had a more modest salary at $150,000 per episode by the end of the show. This means the lead character made around $1.8 million for the second half of the final season of the show while his sidekick got $1.2 million.

That’s not a terrible salary for a year’s work. However, it’s paltry in comparison to how much revenue Breaking Bad earned throughout its tenure. And it’s a lower number compared to some of those other top-earning television stars like Parsons, Harmon, and Jennifer Aniston.

The ‘Breaking Bad’ stars are still making money

It’s true that Cranston and Paul aren’t making anywhere close to $80 million like Walt and Jesse did manufacturing their blue sky meth. But they’re still enjoying money-making opportunities even after the show is over.

Cranston was already a highly respected actor in the industry but now he’s a next-level superstar thanks to multiple Emmy wins. His Breaking Bad fame probably had something to do with Cranston getting cast in his newest drama project, Your Honor.

Meanwhile, both Cranston and Paul reprised their roles as Walt and Jesse for the made-for-TV sequel, El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. The project had a $6 million budget which no doubt included comfortable salaries for both actors.

By Hollywood standards, these two are extraordinarily successful, even if they don’t make as much as Jerry Seinfeld.

'DWTS': Nev Schulman and Jenna Johnson Slay 'Black Swan' Routine

Nev Schulman and Jenna Johnson absolutely slayed their Villains Night routine!

During Monday’s Dancing With the Stars, the dynamic dance duo performed a Black Swan-inspired Paso Doble  set to District 78’s “Swan Lake Remix.” The wardrobe department pulled out all the stops this week, dressing a shirtless Nev in black feather pants and Jenna in a stunning white dress with a tutu and matching headpiece.

Judge Bruno Tonioli said, “It has to be perfect… and it was!” while Carrie Ann Inaba commented, “There were high expectations but you met them and you exceeded them.”

“From beginning to end, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s so good,'” added Derek Hough. “Just beautiful.”

Nev and Jenna received a total score of 30/30 for the routine, the first perfect score of the season!

We took a dance to the dark side with #TeamBeNeevers, and there’s no going back 😈

Ahead of the performance, ballet superfan Nev joked to ET last week that in addition to “schooling” Jenna on ’80s and ’90s history, he’s also been giving her lessons on the art of ballet.

“The only thing I can school her on dance-wise is ballet,” he said. “Otherwise, she knows all the stuff.”

In another interview with ET earlier this season, Nev opened up about why he always wanted to take part in the competition show, but “never thought it would really happen.”

“I had imagined and dreamed it might happen. A lot of people don’t know this about me but I’ve been in the world of dance, both as a dancer and a fan, and as a photographer and filmmaker almost my entire life,” he explained. “I love and am totally obsessed with dance, so I’ve always sort of mused at the idea of maybe one day being on the show.”

Cheryl Burke Performs on 'DWTS' Following Head Injury

Dancing With the Stars must go on for Cheryl Burke!

Despite suffering a scary head injury during rehearsals over the weekend, the 36-year-old pro dancer still performed with her celebrity partner, AJ McLean, during the dance competition show’s Villains Night on Monday.

“Yesterday in rehearsal, something terrible happened,” host Tyra Banks explained, as a pre-taped video package aired, showing exactly how the injury occurred. “But we’ve got some good news. Cheryl is OK and she is cleared to perform.”

Cheryl and AJ then danced a Tango to “Psych” by the Intermezzo Orchestra, dressed in costumes inspired by Bates Motel. “AJ, wow, I’m truly impressed,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba raved. “That was a really difficult routine and that was great.”

“Slasher of a Tango!” Bruno Tonioli added. “I loved it.”

Before getting this scores — a total of 26/30 — Tyra asked Cheryl for an update on how she was doing.

“I’m actually doing OK,” Cheryl responded. “I think I hurt my rotator cuff more than my neck but … we’re good.”

Yesterday, I took a hard fall while rehearsing for #VillainsNight. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Even though AJ kills me at the end of this Tango, this wasn’t part of the routine. It’s one of those things that can happen in a split second. Thankfully, I have the best partner I could ask for that was there to pick me up off the ground. A post shared by Cheryl Burke (@cherylburke) on

Just hours before the show kicked off, fans were wondering if Cheryl would be able to dance after news of her injury broke. A source close to production told ET at the time that they weren’t sure if she’d be able to perform, but was hoping she would.

“@cherylburke sustained a head injury yesterday during rehearsals,” a post shared to DWTS’ official Instagram on Monday read. “We’re sending her well wishes for a speedy recovery before tonight’s #VillainsNight! ❤️ #DWTS.”

Cheryl also addressed the incident on her own page, writing, “Yesterday, I took a hard fall while rehearsing for #VillainsNight. Even though AJ kills me at the end of this Tango, this wasn’t part of the routine.”

“It’s one of those things that can happen in a split second,” she added. “Thankfully, I have the best partner I could ask for that was there to pick me up off the ground. AJ, meanwhile, took to Twitter to inform #TeamPrettyMessedUp fans of what happened. “I know this week’s theme is supposed to be scary, but this took it to a very real level,” he shared. “Thanks for the well wishes and love you are sending Cheryl. We still need your votes!!”

'The Good Wife': Where Is Josh Charles Now?

Legal drama fanatics were all about The Good Wife, which ran on CBS from 2009 to 2016.  Not only was it full of enticing courtroom drama, but the love affairs that protagonist Alicia Florrick (played by Julianna Margulies) gets involved with are steamy and irresistible to follow.

One of Alicia’s most interesting romances was with fellow attorney and boss, Will Gardner, who is played by actor Josh Charles. Charles has been largely out of the limelight since he left The Good Wife, but he’s back in television with Netflix’s new outer space series, Away.

‘The Good Wife’: Who is Josh Charles?

To the current generation, actor Josh Charles is probably most recognizable for his role as Will Gardner on The Good Wife. But Charles was in the business long before he snagged this role as the womanizing attorney. His first prominent role was alongside the legendary late Robin Williams in The Dead Poets’ Society.

This Oscar-winning film starred Williams as an English teacher at an elite boys’ boarding school; with his unconventional teaching methods, he changes the lives of many of his students, who include Ethan Hawke and Charles.

Since this role, Charles has gone on to snag parts in other films and series, such as After.Life and S.W.A.T.  He won a Screen Actors Guild nomination for his role as Dan Rydell in Sports Night, which itself won an Emmy. Overall, Charles has had a prolific acting career, even aside from his outstanding work on The Good Wife.

Who did Charles play on ‘The Good Wife’?

The Good Wife stars Julianna Margulies as Alicia Florrick, an attorney who is also the estranged wife of Peter Florrick, a scandal-riddled politician.  Alicia and Peter have a complicated relationship and largely stay together for the sake of public appearances, as Peter runs for several government offices during the show’s 7-season run.

While Alicia tries to stay away, for the most part, from extra-marital affairs, she has undeniable chemistry with Will Gardner, a colleague from her law school days and current boss.

Will is a womanizing and handsome attorney, but he actually is in love with Alicia, and the two have a steamy and secretive romance that lasts for most of season 3. Tragically, Will was killed in season 5, getting shot by a client in the courtroom.

The character was written off because Charles himself decided not to renew his contract after doing some soul-searching about his future. As sad as fans were to see Charles go, it didn’t take away from the impact that his portrayal of Will Gardner had on the show.

In fact, the role won Charles two Emmy nominations, and undoubtedly helped the show to win its own Emmy nomination.

What is Charles doing now? His new role on Netflix series ‘Away’

Since leaving The Good Wife, Charles has popped up here and there on television. He reprised his role as Blake in the Wet Hot American Summer franchise in 2016’s Wet Hot American Summer: 10 Years Later, and had a recurring role on Law and Order: True Crime.

He also had a guest role on Netflix’s popular sitcom, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The actor has also been busy being a dad to his two young kids.

These days, you can see Charles on Netflix’s new space drama starring Hilary Swank, Away. In it, he plays Matt Logan, a loving husband to astronaut Emma Green (played by Swank). Matt is a NASA engineer and former astronaut himself, who now has to stay on Earth due to a medical issue.

Away follows the first space mission to Mars, led by Swank’s Emma Green, and the way an international team comes together to be able to achieve impossible things.

Although the show was popular, it was unfortunately canceled after its first season. We’ll see what’s next for our beloved Josh Charles!

'The Voice' Bloopers: Blake Saves Gwen From a Wardrobe Malfunction!

Gwen Stefani is back in her coach’s chair on this season of The Voice, and thankfully, boyfriend Blake Shelton has her back!

Not in terms of the competition — the couple has already faced off over a few hopeful performers — but literally, saving her from a wardrobe malfunction in a new blooper reel from the show’s first week of Blind Auditions.

The clip shows the season 19 coaches — Blake, Gwen, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend — having fun behind the scenes. This mostly consists of Kelly poking fun at Blake, John lamenting his awkward “social-distancing handshake” prop and Gwen having a few mishaps with her stunning custom Dulce Bestia bodysuit.

First, the spangly tassels get caught in a succulent plant backstage, while picking it up off a nearby table. Then, she almost has a wardrobe malfunction!

“Blake, she’s unzipped again,” Kelly announces in between auditions. “Do you wanna zip her?”

While the couple has wasted no time sparring over singers this season, Blake admitted that he was, of course, thrilled to welcome Gwen back to The Voice.

“Having Gwen back is very comforting to all the coaches,” the country star shared. “We were all able to just go back to the game we already knew. We all know how to play each other at this thing. It felt like the old gang got back together again, and we’re having a blast.”

‘The Voice’ Returns for Season 19 Despite the Judges Battling Personal Struggles

‘The Voice’ Returns for Season 19 Despite the Judges Battling Personal Struggles

“I think that being able to sit down and watch a show that’s so inspiring and will bring inspiration to people, it will definitely bring joy,” Gwen agreed. “Music is the heartbeat of human beings, so I feel really blessed to be here and to be a part of that and to be able to connect around America on the TV.”

“Maybe the reason there’s so much talent is that a lot of people are kind of paused and they get to kind of, you know, follow the dream in a way they didn’t get to because maybe they’re working or they were in school,” she added. “I think there’s kind of a different kind of group of people this time because of the opportunity that we are all paused in the world right now.”

The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. PT/ET on NBC.

“It’s very violent — you can’t have nonviolent violence and yet you do a lot on television: you see people going, ‘Ooh, ow, this is horrible!’

“But violence should disgust you and make you want to look away.

“And you should see the fallout of big men self-medicating after they’ve killed someone.

“Killing someone should f*** you up — it’s not in the right way of things to do that.”

'90 Day Fiancé': Ariela Says Fans 'Don't Expect Much From the Men' in the Franchise, Like Biniyam

Ariela and Biniyam have had their fair share of ups and downs on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way. During a recent episode, Ariela gave birth to their son, Aviel. The new mother says the experience brought her and Biniyam closer. But, since then, Ariela thinks Biniyam could do a better job of prioritizing.

Ariela has been criticized by fans for expecting too much from her partner. In a recent interview, Ariela spoke about how she thinks 90 Day Fiancé fans “don’t expect much from the men.”

Ariela gives birth to her and Biniyam’s son

90 Day Fiancé fans will remember the stressful birth Ariela went through. She had to have a C-section because the baby was in breech and she had low amniotic fluid.

“I just remember how scared I felt,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “It was not a wonderful moment when I just woke up [from anesthesia] because the last thing I remember is like, them telling me, ‘We gotta do this now,’ and I’m like, ‘No, because I’m not ready. You can’t do it if I’m not ready,’ and they’re like, ‘We have to.’ … When I woke up, honestly, I was just in so much pain that I couldn’t really focus on anything else.”

Despite the stress, Ariela says Aviel’s birth was a beautiful bonding experience for her and Biniyam.

“After the baby’s born, having that moment where we’re together, it was like, any problem that we ever had before, like, it didn’t matter because we experienced this moment together,” she said.

Ariela responds to ’90 Day Fiancé’ fans who say she expects too much from Biniyam

In the interview with ET, Ariela also touched on the fan point of view that she can bee too harsh on Biniyam.

“I think that a lot of the fans who watch the show don’t expect much from the men on it,” she said with a laugh. “Biniyam is great, he does try very hard, but I think if people saw the amount of things that I do for him, they would demand a little bit more from him.”

The reality star also added that because the show only shows a small portion of their lives, there are lots of things that never fully get explained.

RELATED: ‘Darcey & Stacey’: Darcey and Georgi Address Fan Concerns About Their Engagement

Additionally, Ariela feels her and Biniyam’s expectations don’t always match up due to their cultural differences.

“I also think it’s a learning process for Biniyam because he grew up without parents, you know, an example of what is a successful marriage, and we’re from different cultures,” she said. “There’s a difference of expectations with what the man is supposed to do in the culture and everything. In some ways, he’s a very modern guy, you know, he’s a guy that loves to take care of his baby and all this stuff, and in other ways, he is very affected by cultural ways of thinking. I think it’s a learning process for him to kind of understand what I expect from him.”

The Funny Problem Sarah Michelle Gellar Has With Binging 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' With Her Kids

Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar have been married since 2002. They have two kids and they’re now old enough to watch some of their TV shows. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer star talked about a funny problem she has binging the show with them and how she solves it.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is watching ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’

Celebrities are finding ways to keep busy while staying inside during the pandemic. Gellar revealed her kids have been binging the iconic show.

“We just started,” she said on The Kelly Clarkson Show in October. “I had never thought to show it to them. They asked during quarantine. They were trying to find shows to binge. And I was like, ‘okay.’ I didn’t even know if they’d be into it, but they are like so into it.”

She continued, “Except I’m the world’s biggest disappointment for them because they’ll always ask questions and I’ll be like ‘I don’t remember. I’ll have to text someone and ask.’ They think they know it better than I do at this point.”

She has to search answers to their ‘Buffy’ questions

The actor talked about revisiting the vampire show with her children again. She gave her theory on why her kids are enjoying it.

“I think that they would like Buffy creatively whether it was me or not,” Gellar told Us Weekly. “I think I’m just, like, an added bonus, but I think they would have loved the show regardless. … I think my family is proud of it and they’re excited and it’s such a fun binge-watch.”

Sadly, she’s not that much of an expert on the show. “An episode will start and they’ll ask me a question, what happens, and I’ll be quickly Googling the episode to try to figure it out,” she said.

Gellar recently shared a message to Michelle Trachtenberg

The drama ended in 2003, but it looks like the cast members still reach out to each other. Gellar recently shared a birthday message on Instagram to Michelle Trachtenberg, who played Dawn Summers.

Gellar posted a picture of Buffy and Dawn looking at each other. “Me – ‘what do you mean, you are 35 today?!?’ Michelle- ‘how many times do I have to tell you, I’m not a little kid anymore’ Well, to me, you will always be my little sister. (Even if you’ve been taller than me since you were 15) Happy Birthday @michelletrachtenberg,” read the caption of the post.

Trachtenberg wrote in the comment section, “See my sister’s the slayer! This is my first genuine laugh out loud in these wild times. Well captioned thank you.”

It sounds like Gellar is having fun revisiting her past with her family. Luckily, she’s able to find the answers to their questions about the show.
