Queen Elizabeth shaves time off London Bridge hero’s prison sentence

The convicted murderer who fought off the London Bridge terrorist with a narwhal tusk will see an early prison release, thanks to Queen Elizabeth.

Her Majesty has granted Steven Gallant, 42, the royal prerogative of mercy, an order that reduced the murder sentence he was serving when he helped thwart the terror attack, the Evening Standard reported.

The order knocked 10 months off his 17-year sentence and will allow him to seek parole in June.

The Ministry of Justice said the Queen was advised to grant the pardon as a result of Gallant’s “exceptionally brave actions,” the Mirror reported.

Gallant has been serving time for the murder of firefighter Barrie Jackson, who was beaten to death outside a pub in 2005.

But Jackson’s family said they backed the Queen’s order due to Gallant’s heroic efforts during the fatal attack last November.

“I have mixed emotions, but what happened at London Bridge goes to show the reality that people can change,” Jackson’s son, Jack, told The Mirror.

Gallant was at a conference to rehabilitate prisoners when the fatal attack took place in the Fishmongers’ Hall next to London Bridge.

He was among a group that ran out to intervene when Usman Khan, a convicted terrorist on parole, launched a stabbing spree that killed two people.

Footage showed Gallant trying to subdue him with a narwal tusk from the wall of the historic building before cops shot Khan dead.

Gallant later said in a statement that he “didn’t hesitate” to pursue the deranged attacker.

“I could tell something was wrong and had to help,” he said. “I saw injured people. Khan was stood [sic] in the foyer with two large knives in his hands. He was a clear danger to all.”

Elizabeth Glazer, architect of de Blasio’s push to close Rikers Island, to resign

The director of the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, Elizabeth Glazer, is leaving her post by the end of the month, sources told The Post.

A senior criminal justice policy advisor to Mayor Bill de Blasio, Glazer is perhaps best known for spearheading the administration’s sweeping, and controversial, plan to close Rikers Island.

Glazer was described by City Hall insiders as an effective mediator on often-contentious criminal justice issues between the mayor’s office, the NYPD and city district attorneys.

“It’s a real loss,” one source said of Glazer’s departure, of which the senior official gave no specific reason for. “Without her, there is very little rapport with the DAs.”

A source said Glazer was left in an awkward position earlier this year when her staff penned a letter opposing the mayor’s initial handling of city protests against police brutality spurred by the death of George Floyd.

But the results of the move by her staff does not appear to be a reason, at least not publicly, for her pending resignation.

“She’s been here since the beginning. I think it’s time to move on to something new,” another source said.

Before arriving in the de Blasio administration, Glazer worked as the Secretary for Public Safety to Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

She received her bachelor’s degree from Harvard University before graduating from Columbia Law School.

Elizabeth Hurley says she healed the rift with her son Damian's dad Steve Bing just months before his suicide

ELIZABETH Hurley has revealed that she healed the rift with her son Damian's dad before his suicide.

Multi-millionaire film producer Steve Bing was found dead after he leapt from his 27th floor apartment in LA on 22 June this year.

Liz and her ex had a difficult relationship over the years after he made it clear he wanted nothing to do with their son.

Speaking of his death, she told You magazine: "It’s very sad… just terrible.

"Horrific that it happened but there is some comfort to know we had made up and there was no bad feeling."

Steve and Liz were only together for a short while in 2001 and he once claimed they were "never exclusive".

Damian, 18, was born on April 4, 2002 – after Liz and Steve had split up.

At the time, he insisted the child was not his but a DNA test later proved he was the biological father.

"We hadn’t been friends for a very long time…" she said.

"But about a year and a half ago he came back into our lives."

Liz explained that the reunion was "complicated" but "he did reach out".

Shockingly Steve excluded both Damian and his other daughter Kira Kerkorian, 21, from his will almost two decades before his suicide, court documents obtained by The Sun revealed.

"None of it’s really my story, because it’s all to do with Damian," Liz said.

"All I can say is that it was great to connect again with someone who… we had loved each other, very much. A long time ago."

Bing included sections in his will that outlined his desire to leave nothing for any of his offspring.

Bing's decision came despite the Hollywood investor amassing his fortune via a $600million inheritance from his grandfather when he turned 18.

"I have recently been informed by an individual that she is pregnant with my child, and I here by declare that whether or not such child is mine, it is my intention not to provide in this Will for such child (or any other child as to which I may be the father) in this Will or for the offspring of any such child or children, whether now living or here after born," the document read.

The seven-page document also included an "intentional omission" clause where Bing stressed that he had "full knowledge" of what this would mean for his children.

"I have, except as otherwise specified in this Will, in full knowledge omitted to provide for my heirs, expressly including, but not limited to, any person now living or hereafter born who is, or claims to be, my spouse, my child or the issue of deceased child of mine," it continues.

"My decision not to provide for any child living at the time of my death, expressly including, without limitation, [any] child as to whose birth [I] am unaware, is based upon many reasons, such that Section 21622 of the California Probate Code shall not be applied to any such child.

"My-Executor is hereby authorized to defend, at the expense of the trust estate, any contest…"

Bing was found dead outside a luxury apartment building in Century City, California, on the afternoon of Monday, June 22.

He had been suffering from depression and financial struggles, according to reports.

Hurley dated the 55-year-old back in 2001 and they shared a son, now 18-year-old Damian.

Bing also had 21-year-old Kira with former tennis player Lisa Bonder but didn't know he was the father until years later.

He later formed relationships with both Damian and Kira, even fighting for them to be included in their grandfather's trust last year.

YOU’RE NOT ALONE

EVERY 90 minutes in the UK a life is lost to suicide.

It doesn't discriminate, touching the lives of people in every corner of society – from the homeless and unemployed to builders and doctors, reality stars and footballers.

It's the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, more deadly than cancer and car crashes.

And men are three times more likely to take their own life than women.

Yet it's rarely spoken of, a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage unless we all stop and take notice, now.

That is why The Sun launched the You're Not Alone campaign.

The aim is that by sharing practical advice, raising awareness and breaking down the barriers people face when talking about their mental health, we can all do our bit to help save lives.

Let's all vow to ask for help when we need it, and listen out for others… You're Not Alone.

If you, or anyone you know, needs help dealing with mental health problems, the following organisations provide support:

  • CALM, www.thecalmzone.net, 0800 585 858
  • Heads Together, www.headstogether.org.uk
  • Mind, www.mind.org.uk, 0300 123 3393
  • Papyrus, www.papyrus-uk.org, 0800 068 41 41
  • Samaritans, www.samaritans.org, 116 123

In the hours before his death, Bing wrote "one note for each kid," TV personality Billy Bush said, according to the Mirror.

Following Bing's death, Liz posted a tribute to Instagram, saying the pair had "become close again" over the past year.

"I am saddened beyond belief that my ex Steve is no longer with us," she wrote.

Damian also thanked his fans for their "overwhelming kindness" in the days following his father's suicide.

Elizabeth Chambers Says She's Parenting 'Alone' After Son Gets Stitches

The road to recovery. Elizabeth Chambers and estranged husband Armie Hammer’s son Ford is on the mend after recently suffering an injury on Tuesday, October 6.

Armie Hammer and Elizabeth Chambers’ Cutest Moments With Their 2 Kids

“Tonight in the most random turn of events, Ford rolled out of bed while he was sleeping and clipped his cheek on the bedside table,” the Bird Bakery creator, 38, wrote on her Instagram Story of the 3-year-old. “After hours of crying (both of us), excessive bleeding (so much blood), [my daughter, Harper], becoming sick because she feels the way I do about blood, here we are.”

The Texas native thanked her parents and brother “for being there” for her after the incident. “So much love for the parents who do it alone,” Chambers wrote, referencing the fact that she and her kids have been quarantined in the Cayman Islands without Hammer amid the coronavirus pandemic. (The Call Me By Your Name star, 34, left ahead of their July split after 10 years of marriage.)

Celebrity Health Scares

On Wednesday, October 7, the actress gave her followers an update on Ford’s condition, writing via Instagram that he was “ready for the operating room.”

Chambers posted a selfie with the toddler hours later, writing, “Out of the OR, out of recovery and all stitched up with ten perfect sutures. … Additional comfort provided by his favorite quilt.”

The model has been documenting life with Ford and Harper, 5, via social media, from horseback rides to beach walks.

The little ones started school in the Caribbean in September. “A couple days late and my sad signs didn’t survive the humidity or enthusiasm. BUT, Monday marked their second week of kindergarten and pre-k IRL in GC and the first day of Zoom Kindergarten for Hops at her school in L.A.,” Chambers captioned a sweet Instagram shot at the time. “Happy back-to-school, whatever that means to you!”

Drew Barrymore, Will Kopelman and More Former Couples Crushing Coparenting

As for Hammer, the California native has been living in Los Angeles. Since splitting from his wife, the Golden Globe nominee has been romantically linked to Rumer Willis, Jessica Ciencin Henriquez and Courtney Vucekovich.

“He is going through a tough time with the divorce,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly earlier this month, adding that Hammer is not used to “having people focus on his personal life after being married to Elizabeth for [10] years.”

The actor explained to British GQ in September why breaking up was “not an easy thing,” saying, “There’s a lot of shifting and a lot of growing pains and a lot of changes.”

Strange things about Elizabeth Gillies’ marriage

Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez. Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom. Sarah Hyland and Wells Adams. Those are just a few celebrities who postponed their weddings in 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic. At one point, Elizabeth Gillies was part of the aforementioned group of celebs, telling Vogue in September 2020: “Once we saw how dire the situation was, we knew we had to postpone,” adding, “It was a no-brainer for us.” The other half of that “us”? Composer and music producer Michael Corcoran.

Initially, the two were slated to tie the knot at the St. Regis in Atlanta on April 25, 2020, “which also happens to be their French bulldog Otis’s birthday,” per Vogue. While their original wedding date came and went without much fanfare, Gillies and Corcoran did end up marking the occasion “with a mini celebration among a small group of family and friends who had been quarantining together.”

The lovebirds planned to postpone the wedding for a year, but the “virus really put things into perspective” for Gillies and Corcoran. The Victorious alum told Vogue that while “a big wedding was no longer something that made sense for [them],” they did “want to get married as long as it could be done in a safe and intimate setting.”

Ultimately, the show, err, wedding did go on, and now the actress is a married woman. Here’s what you need to know about Elizabeth Gillies’ marriage.

Elizabeth Gillies kept her wedding a secret

Elizabeth Gillies shocked fans when she took to Instagram in September 2020 to subtly announce that she had married longtime boyfriend Michael Corcoran. Gillies posted a handful of intimate shots back to back, painting a picture of the big day. While two of the photos were captionless, the other two were captioned “8•8•20” — the day of the wedding.

While, according to Vogue, Gillies and Corcoran had been dating for six years before they decided to take a trip down the aisle, their romance definitely flew under the radar. Under one of Gillies’ wedding shots, someone commented: “Bro what !? I didn’t even know she was dating anyone !,” adding, “Amazing !! So happy for you !!” Another person chimed in: “I am just mad I didnt know she was dating … but also so so happy for her.”

Despite the wedding (and clearly the relationship) being super low-key in the first place, it seems Gillies wanted to hold on to the secret for a bit longer. While the happy couple said “I do” on Aug. 8, 2020, the Dynasty star didn’t publicly share the news until Sept. 16, 2020. Fallon Carrington would never.

Age is nothing but a number for Elizabeth Gillies and Michael Corcoran

Judging by the comments on Elizabeth Gillies’ Instagram posts that offered a glimpse of her big day, the fact that she was dating Michael Corcoran wasn’t common knowledge. That’s why it’s not surprising that after learning about Gillies’ super secret nuptials, fans were very interested to find out more about the former Nickelodeon star’s mystery man.

According to The Sun, Corcoran “has worked heavily on Nickelodeon kids’ shows” as a music producer. In fact, he worked on Gillies’ show Nick show, Victorious. Corcoran also appeared on Nick shows like iCarly and Zoey 101 with his band, Backhouse Mike. While it’s unclear if Gillies and her now hubby met while he was working on Victorious, the actress did tell Vogue that they didn’t start dating right off the bat. “I always had a crush on him,” she said, adding, “But I played it cool.”

While there isn’t a whole lot of information out there about Corcoran, one piece of information that sent Gillies’ fans into a frenzy is the fact that there is a 20 year age gap between the two. When they tied the knot, Gillies was 27 to Corcoran’s 47, and people on the internet had a lot to say about it. One person tweeted: “now how did THIS dude get THE liz gillies to marry him.” Another wrote: “Something about Liz Gillies marrying a 50 year old frequent Dan Schneider collaborator doesn’t sit right with me.”

Regardless of what the internet has to say, Gillies seems to be happy, telling Vogue: “At the end of the day, it’s about you and the person you love. The rest doesn’t matter.”

HMS Queen Elizabeth leads new strike group at sea for the first time

Britannia rules the waves once more: HMS Queen Elizabeth leads flotilla of nine ships as Royal Navy’s new carrier strike group assembles at sea for first time

  • The £3billion aircraft carrier led flotilla of nine ships as new carrier strike group assembled at sea for first time
  • The group of ships, which include those from UK, US and the Netherlands, gathered in North Sea off Scotland
  • HMS Queen Elizabeth also embarked two squadrons of F-35B stealth jets, including the UK’s 617 Squadron

These images show Britain’s HMS Queen Elizabeth leading the largest and most powerful task force assembled by a European Navy in almost 20 years.

The £3billion aircraft carrier – the joint largest in the Royal Navy’s history – was the crown jewel in a flotilla of nine ships which form the UK’s new Carrier Strike Group.

Yesterday it assembled at sea for the first time off the north east coast of Scotland as part of Joint Warrior – NATO’s largest annual exercise.

The Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carrier led the flotilla of destroyers and frigates from the UK, US and the Netherlands, together with two Royal Fleet Auxiliaries.

In total, 3,000 personnel from the UK, US and Netherlands were involved.

The £3billion aircraft carrier (pictured centre), which, along with its sister ship HMS Prince of Wales, is the largest in the Royal Navy’s history, was the crown jewel in a flotilla of nine ships which make up a new carrier strike group

Today the task force, including HMS Queen Elizabeth (pictured) assembled at sea for the first time off the north east coast of Scotland as part of Joint Warrior – NATO’s largest annual exercise

What was the Royal Navy’s new Carrier Strike Group made up of?

HMS Queen Elizabeth – Royal Navy Aircraft carrier

HMS Diamond – Royal Navy Type 45 Destroyer

HMS Defender – Royal Navy Type 45 Destroyer

USS The Sullivans – US Navy Destroyer

HMS Northumberland – Royal Navy Frigate

HMS Kent – Royal Navy Frigate

HNLMS Eversten – Royal Netherlands Navy Frigate

RFA Tideforce – Royal Fleet Auxiliary Ships

RFA Fort Victoria – Royal Fleet Auxiliary Ships

Meanwhile, HMS Queen Elizabeth embarked two squadrons of F-35B stealth jets, the UK’s 617 Squadron and US Marine Corps fighter attack squadron 211.

Alongside eight Merlin helicopters of 820 and 846 Naval Air Squadrons, it is the largest air group to operate from a Royal Navy carrier in more than thirty years, and the largest air group of fifth generation fighters at sea anywhere in the world, say the Royal Navy.

The task force meanwhile is the largest assembled by an European Navy in almost 20 years.

Commodore Steve Moorhouse, Commander UK Carrier Strike Group, said: ‘The new UK Carrier Strike Group is the embodiment of British maritime power, and sits at the heart of a modernised and emboldened Royal Navy.

‘Protected by a ring of advanced destroyers, frigates, helicopters and submarines, and equipped with fifth generation fighters, HMS Queen Elizabeth is able to strike from the sea at a time and place of our choosing; and with our Nato allies at our side, we will be ready to fight and win in the most demanding circumstances.

‘Carrier Strike offers Britain choice and flexibility on the global stage. It reassures our friends and allies and presents a powerful deterrent to would-be adversaries.’

The Carrier Strike Group includes NATO’s most sophisticated destroyers – the Royal Navy’s Type 45s HMS Diamond and HMS Defender and US Navy Arleigh Burke-class USS The Sullivans.

It also contains frigates HMS Northumberland and HMS Kent from the UK and the Dutch Navy’s HNLMS Evertsen.

They will not only protect the Queen Elizabeth-class carriers from enemy ships, submarines, aircraft and missiles, but are also capable of conducting a range of supporting missions, from maritime security to disaster relief.

Meanwhile, two Royal Fleet Auxiliary ships, RFA Tideforce and RFA Fort Victoria, will supply fuel, food, spares and ammunition, to enabled sustained operations from the sea without host nation support.

Commander Vince Owen, Commanding Officer of HMS Defender, said: ‘Providing air and missile defence to a Carrier Strike Group is exactly the task HMS Defender and the Type 45 has been designed to do.

‘Having previously supported the French aircraft carrier FGS Charles de Gaulle in the fight against ISIL in 2015 and more recently been part of the USS Abraham Lincoln task group as she transited through the Strait of Hormuz last year, it is exciting to be integrating HMS Defender into the UK-led Carrier Strike Group for the first time.

‘Having just successfully completed a period of Basic Operational Sea Training over the summer, the men and women that make up my ship’s company are motivated and ready to take part in the next stage of our training in preparation for deploying with the Carrier Strike Group next year.’

Cdr Rick Ongering, Commanding Officer of HNLMS Evertsen, added: ‘The Royal Netherlands Navy and the Royal Navy have been very close maritime partners for decades.

‘Our marines have been working together through the UK-Netherlands Amphibious Force for almost fifty years and our ships regularly undertake Fleet Operational Sea Training in the UK.

‘However, the opportunity to accompany HMS Queen Elizabeth is a new experience and HNLMS Evertsen is excited to be working with the UK Carrier Strike Group during Exercise Joint Warrior this October.’
