Cardi B Claps Back at Claim That Black Female Rappers Devalue Birkin Bags

Shutting it down. Cardi B clapped back at haters claiming she and other Black female rappers have devalued Hermés’ wildly expensive Birkin bags.

These coveted designer handbags cost anywhere from $12,000 to more than $200,000 for exotic skins such as alligator — and the 28-year-old cannot get enough! She recently posted a pic showing off her extensive collection, though apparently, not everyone was impressed. The “I Like It” singer is shutting down the negativity with a powerful message.

On Sunday, October 25, the Grammy winner a video to Instagram calling out a social media post that claimed “Birkins have literally lost their value” and are less exclusive because “city girls and Cardi” have people “convinced that these Birkin bags are easy to get.”

“I’ve been seeing this tweet right. It had me and it had other female rappers on it and they were talking about if we could get Birkins from the Hermés store and they [were] also saying how we depreciate the value of a Hermés Birkin bag,” she said at the start of the nearly 4-minute clip. “I find that really interesting because, first thing first, I definitely could get a bag.”

In fact, she noted that she picked up four that very day. “I don’t want to brag but, it’s like, don’t even try it.”

She then went on to point out the race discrepancy behind the remark. “Second of all… why is it that y’all asking female rappers if they could get a bag from the Hermès store? Y’all don’t do this to these white celebrities.”

At this point in the video, she goes on to note how important hip-hop culture is to trends.

“Another thing is that they’re saying we’re depreciating the value,” she said. “Actually, we add value because when we mention brands in hip-hop, s–t go up.”

For example, she explained that after the Louboutin reference in “Bodak Yellow,” their sales went up “1000 plus percent.”

Though it may not be quite that much, according to a report from Business of Fashion and Lyst in November 2017, searches for those “red bottom shoes” increased by 217 percent after the hit single was released. BoF also reported at the time that Cardi “created an estimated $4.5 million media value in 2017.” So she definitely has the figures to back her up.

“Like hip-hop, we start trends,” the “WAP” singer continued in her video on Sunday night. “When y’all say that we devalue s–t, no we actually add value.”

Along with making her point, Cardi B also encouraged young girls to see past the value of a Birkin. “If you’re a regular girl, you don’t have to break your neck to have a Birkin. A Birkin don’t make you,” she said. “Don’t ever feel like you gotta compare yourself. Don’t compare yourself to nobody [on] the internet. This internet s— is fake… You still a bad f—ing bitch. Period.”

Cardi B Shuts Down Trolls of Her Birkin Collection

Cardi B is far from the only celebrity to regularly indulge in Hermès Birkin bag, which by some measure, may now be a safer investment than gold. Kim Kardashian and Mohamed Hadid each have at least one novelty custom version, which respectively feature naked women and Bella Hadid’s eye. Drake has a “fairly vast” collection, which also happens to be an investment in his future wife. Understandably, many bristle at the price tags; they typically go for somewhere between $9,000 and $200,000, though one once went for $380,000 at auction. Though, official wait lists for the bag are a thing of the past, they can still be tricky to get your hands on. But somehow, it’s only Cardi B’s indulgence that seems to constitute a cardinal offense amongst trolls online.

Tellingly, the most vocal condemnation of Cardi’s collection yet begins with a disclaimer that it comes across as distinctly anti-Black. “Birkins have literally lost their value. The City Girls and Cardi have got y’all convinced that these Birkin bags are easy to get,” a screenshot that circulated over the weekend began. “These bags are supposed to be exclusive and you’re supposed to be big in the fashion world and have relationships with these people to get one,” the post continued. Never mind that Cardi B, in addition to regularly scoring major fashion magazine covers, is a face of Balenciaga; her campaign currently hangs from the Louvre’s façade.

To Cardi, the post was “really interesting,” as she espoused in an Instagram video. For starters, she “definitely could get a bag. Actually, I got four bags today from the Hermès store. I don’t want to brag but it’s like, don’t even try it,” she said in a video Instagrammed on Sunday night. “Why is it that y’all asking female rappers if they can get a bag from the Hermès store? Y’all don’t do that to these white celebrities. So, why is it that y’all gotta be asking us? What the fuck?”

As for depreciating the value of Birkins, Cardi asserted the opposite is true. “Actually, we add value, because when we mention brands in hip-hop, shit go up,” she said, citing the effect her “these is expensive, these is red bottoms” lyric in “Bodak Yellow” had on sales of Christian Louboutins. In fact, it was thanks to another lyric—“I like those Balenciagas / the ones that look like socks” in “I Like It Like That”—that she was asked to be a Balenciaga face.

Cardi knows her Birkin collection is a true feat. And the notion that she or others wouldn’t only adds to the offense. “Why when a Black girl, why when a Hispanic girl have a bag you have to question it? ‘Oh is it fake?’ Or ‘she’s a scammer,’” Cardi said. “There’s a lot of boss-ass bitches out here. There’s a lot of boss-ass bitches that own they company. There’s realtors. There’s PRs, A&Rs. There’s doctors, dentists.” And that list, which “goes fucking on,” isn’t limited to just one class: “A lot of Instagram models are getting like $20,000 a fucking post.”

Cardi’s husband, Offset, later echoed her sentiments. “Black people having access to luxury shouldn’t be a debate,” he wrote on Instagram. “By the way hip hop starts the trends!”

Stop letting people on the internet tell ya’ll who can get a Birkin at the store, and how many Birkin’s you can get.Black people having access to luxury shouldn’t be a debate…by the way hip hop starts the trends !

You, unlike Cardi, may not own at least 23 Birkins. And Cardi wants you to know that’s perfectly okay. “Let me tell you something: If you’re a regular girl, you don’t gotta break your neck to have a Birkin,” she continued. “A Birkin don’t make you. A n***** don’t give a fuck if you have a Birkin or Aldo purse,” she said, shouting out those who make Fashion Nova, H&M, and Zara look “swaggy as fuck.”

In conclusion: “Don’t ever feel like you got to compare yourself. Don’t ever feel like you got to go to Canal Street and get a fake one to keep up.” And above all, remember that “this internet shit” is fake. “Everybody got this, everybody got that on the internet. I went to the club, I don’t see nobody with it,” Cardi said. “And that’s okay. Because you still a bad fucking bitch.”

Meet the man creating custom Birkin bags Kim, Kylie and Cardi B love

Jay Ahr designer Jonathan Riss tells stories by custom-embroidering vintage Hermès Birkin bags from around the world, and his work has caught the attention of celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Cardi B.

“I buy an old piece and then I transform it, so that’s really the base of what I’m doing,” Riss recently told Page Six Style over the phone. “It’s finding an object full of narrative, with a story, [that] is iconic by itself, and then I take it and transform it and when I transform that piece, this is where I’m telling the story.”

Riss’ fashion journey began when he was just 20 years old, making his way from Ukraine to Mumbai to New York — where he opened his Jay Ahr boutique — to Paris and finally to Hong Kong, where he settled and has been building one of the largest collections of transformed Birkin bags in the world.

With over 1,000 pieces so far, Riss tells us his collection is “based on 20 years of archives that I have done, and it’s magic.”

This piece, designed on a vintage Hermès Birkin 35 in black leather first produced in 1999, is an ode to Kanye West’s 2010 hit “Runaway.” The typography is a nod to contemporary artist Glenn Ligon, the first African-American artist to have his work displayed in the White House in 2009. He was praised by President Obama at the time.

Cases of truckie, manager to be separate over crash that killed police

Two employees of a trucking company, who are both charged over the deaths of four police officers in a crash on the Eastern Freeway, will have their cases heard separately.

Truck driver Mohinder Singhfaces four counts of culpable driving over the April 22 crash in Kew, while Simiona Tuteru, a manager at Connect Logistics, is charged with four counts of manslaughter.

Melbourne Magistrates Court heard on Monday that despite the connection between the two men, prosecutors were keen for the cases to be heard separately.

During a short administrative hearing for Mr Tuteru on Monday, prosecutor Jason Ong said the case against the manager could proceed regardless of what happens to Mr Singh even though the two men shared the "same narrative".

A previous court hearing was told Mr Tuteru co-ordinated drivers at Connect Logistics and allegedly knew that before the crash Mr Singh's mental state had deteriorated due to a lack of sleep and alleged drug use.

Mr Tuteru, 49, had his bail extended to appear before the court again on December 11.

Mr Singh, 48, is in custody and due to appear again on November 12. On top of the charges of culpable driving, he faces dozens of other offences including trafficking methamphetamine and supplying drugs to a child.

Police allege he was affected by illicit drugs and fatigue while driving on April 22.

Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Senior Constable Kevin King and constables Glen Humphris and Josh Prestney were killed in the crash.

The four officers were on the side of the freeway after Porsche driver Richard Pusey had been pulled over after allegedly speeding.

Mr Pusey, 42, has been committed to stand trial on charges including reckless conduct endangering serious injury and outraging public decency. Investigators allege he filmed the police officers hit in the crash before he fled the scene.

Mr Pusey was granted bail earlier this month and is due to face an administrative hearing at the County Court on November 11.

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti blasts 'joke' Lucas Digne red card

‘We will appeal for sure’: Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti blasts ‘joke’ decision to send off Lucas Digne and suggests it could have come as retribution for Jordan Pickford’s red card escape in last week’s Merseyside derby

  • Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti confirmed they will appeal Lucas Digne’s red card
  • The left back was sent off after catching Kyle Walker-Peters with his studs
  • But Ancelotti claims it may have been come with Jordan Pickford in mind
  • Pickford escaped a red card after a reckless challenge on Virgil van Dijk

Carlo Ancelotti remarkably suggested Lucas Digne was red carded as punishment after the significant reaction to Jordan Pickford’s non-sending off in last week’s Merseyside derby.

The Everton manager confirmed the club would appeal the red for Digne, who clumsily fouled Kyle Walker-Peters from behind in the 72nd minute at St Mary’s Stadium.

Speaking afterwards on Sky Sports, Ancelotti claimed: ‘The red card was a joke. It was not intentional. Maybe it could be a yellow but for sure it was not violent conduct.

Carlo Ancelotti confirmed Everton will appeal Lucas Digne’s red card against Southampton

Digne was sent off in Everton’s 2-0 loss  after a clumsy tackle on Kyle Walker-Peters (front)

‘They could check better. Maybe all the rumours all week against (Jordan) Pickford, against Richarlison, affected the decision and if it is like this, it’s not right, it’s not fair. We will appeal, for sure.

‘He did not have the intention to hurt the player, or to use violent conduct. It was not the right decision. To lose Digne for three games is too much. We didn’t complain about Richarlison. But here, we have to appeal, because this was not the right decision.’

On the defeat itself, Ancelotti added: ‘We didn’t play well. Southampton were better than us and they deserved to win. We don’t have to be too disappointed. We are still at the top of the table, which is an unbelievable achievement for us. We have to try to stay there.’

James Rodriguez looked like he wanted to come off towards the end, but Ancelotti had used all three of his substitutes. The Colombian’s fitness will be checked in the coming days.

This 2-0 victory for Southampton came on the anniversary of their 9-0 defeat by Leicester City, and Hasenhuttl claimed he did not speak about that loss once with his players.

‘We did not talk once this week about losing 9-0,’ he said. ‘That is a topic for you guys, but it was important what we did after that defeat. Now we don’t even think about it any more. I don’t care.’

Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse added: ‘They came here unbeaten. We were aggressive. We believe in what we are doing and we have the quality to go and score goals. This gives us a lot of confidence, we weren’t really troubled.’

Adorable kitten who suffered burns to his face makes miraculous recovery

Contains graphic images.

An adorable kitten who suffered horrific burns in a fire has made a miracle recovery after being adopted by the veterinary nurse who saved him.

The seven-week-old animal was rescued by police officers who spotted him lying in the road near a bonfire.

He was taken to Pride Veterinary Centre in Derby where he was given a slim chance of survival last month.

But after an operation to save his eye and dress his wounds, the kitten survived.

Veterinary nurse Jenni Gretton was so taken with him, she started an online campaign to raise money for his treatment.

After just six hours of launching the campaign, wellwishers donated £2,000 to cover his vet’s bills.

Jenni, 32, has now adopted the kitten, who she has named ‘Fire Cat’ after no one came forward to claim him.

The mum-of-one has to cover Fire Cat’s feet in cling film to help them heal and moisturises his eyes several times a day so they don’t dry out.

Jenni, from Mickelover, Derby, said: ‘He smelled of burnt hair because he was singed. All of his fur was charred and his ears and whiskers were burnt.

‘All of the skin on his face was burnt and his eyes were really quite singed. His ears were clinging over the top and he was really sore.

‘He looked worse a few days later when the skin started to peel off – the skin on his face peeled away after a few days.’

Fire Cat was put on fluids and vets were unsure whether he would survive.

‘It was difficult to know whether to carry on with treatment or not. We decided to try,’ added Jenni.

‘We were really unsure at that point what to do because we had never seen a kitten that had been so badly burnt before.

‘We knew there was a high risk of him getting an infection or not being able to breathe properly and we knew how much pain he was in.

‘But we wanted to give him a chance, so we started treatment starting with pain relief.

‘His eyes were really burnt. I flushed his eyes out and cleaned his face to see how bad his injuries were.

‘His lips were burnt away right to his teeth.’

Over the next few days, Fire Cat started doing better. But after no one came forward to claim him, Jenni adopted him.

She added: ‘We still don’t know who his owners were, what happened to him or whether it was malicious or not.

‘I took him home after seven days and his hair started falling off.

‘I was bathing him throughout the day and putting vaseline on his wounds. His skin fell off his face, nose, and nostrils.’

The cat now lives with Jenni, her husband Phil Gretton, 42, and their two-year-old son Jude who gave the kitty his name.

‘Fire Cat fitted in straight away at home and plays with our Cavalier cross breeds, Harvey and Ringo,’ said Jenni.

‘He is really happy and really bright. He is just like a normal kitten except that he looks different.

‘I didn’t think he would get his hair back but it is growing back. He’s too young to go outside and won’t be going out for a while.’

Arsenal hand trial to Dennis Bergkamp's son Mitchel, 22, in hope midfielder can replicate legendary dad

ARSENAL have handed a trial to the son of club legend Dennis Bergkamp.

The Gunners have watched 22-year-old Mitchel in action at their North London training ground this week.

Attacking midfielder Mitchel, a free agent, slotted in with the Under-23s and made a good impression on manager Steve Bould.

ARSENAL NEWS LIVE: Click here for the latest Gunners news

Mitchel has spent his entire career thus far with Dutch second-division side Almere after joining them in 2017.

He turned out for the youth teams but failed to make an appearance with the seniors.

Mitchel grew up in London while his old man, now 51, was making history for Arsenal and featured for local side Hadley Wood Rangers.

Fans will be hoping he has even a fraction of his dad's skill.

Bergkamp senior went down as an Arsenal icon and one of the club's greatest ever players.

He scored 120 goals in 423 appearances and won seven trophies – including three Premier League titles.

Bringing in Mitchel was part of a recruitment drive by Head of Youth Development Per Mertesacker.

The Gunners are revamping the set up of their kids and want to bring in, specifically, more quality to their U23s squad.

A total of 14 youth prospects have been sent out on loan this season, so more triallists are being brought in to plug the gaps.

Mitchel previously spoke of Arsenal being 'like home'.

And speaking of memories of his dad, he added: "I remember well at Highbury, that stadium. I remember sitting there and my dad scored against West Bromwich Albion.

"He really celebrated it beautifully by kissing his ring and pointing up. I often look back moments, but this is something that is etched in my memory."

Tyra Banks Blasts Claims She Banned 'Real Housewives' From 'DWTS'

The host fires back after Bethenny Frankel takes issue with the alleged ban

Michael Loccisano/Getty Images

“Dancing With the Stars” host Tyra Banks is shooting down reports claiming that she banned stars of Bravo’s “Real Housewives” franchise from appearing on ABC’s reality competition show.

“This is 100 percent untrue,” said Banks via a statement released from her publicist.  “She’s a huge fan of the ‘Housewives’ and everyone knows Tyra is a businesswoman first. As a businesswoman, why would she say anything against the ‘Housewives’? She has nothing to do with casting.”

“She loves Andy [Cohen],” Banks’ publicist added. “She’s been on ‘Watch What Happens Live’ several times. She’s a huge fan of the Clubhouse.”

A tabloid report released this week claimed that Banks, “has never been a fan of the ‘Housewives,’ but the real reason she doesn’t want them on her show is that Bethenny Frankel, NeNe Leakes and Teresa Giudice do not make headlines anymore.”

The story also alleged that Banks, “made it clear that she didn’t want any more ‘Housewives’ in her ballroom.”

The report prompted former “Real Housewives of New York” Bethenny Frankel to fire back at Tyra Banks.

In a since-deleted Tweet, Frankel wrote: “Good to know @tyrabanks has clumped me in her no more housewives mandate on @DancingABC. Also good to know-their casting director Deena, who I  has asked me to be on that show multiple x in the last decade. I’m also no longer a housewife, but nobody is bigger than the game Tyra.”

However, Frankel quickly back tracked, attributing her change of heart to the good relationship she has with “Dancing With the Stars” casting director.

“I deleted that last post Bc I really like & have a great relationship with Deena Katz from #DWTS. If @tyrabanks wants to come on my podcast, she is welcome anytime as she has built a successful brand on her own in her own way. #justbwithbethenny.”

“Dancing With the Stars” has had several “Real Housewives” stars appear as contestants during past seasons including, Lisa Vanderpump, Lisa Rinna and Erika Girardi of the Beverly Hills edition, as well as NeNe Leakes, Kim Zolciak-Biermann and Kim Fields from Atlanta.
