How lockdown has impacted parenting trends: John Lewis reveals sales of safety gates, baby monitors and bouncers have more than doubled since the start of the pandemic as families spend more time at home

While all parents are eager to be well prepared for the arrival of a new baby, data has revealed that lockdown spurred them on to be as well equipped as possible.  

Sales data collected by John Lewis has shown that families started stocking up for new arrivals with safety gates and carriers seeing an increase in sales.

The retailer recorded a doubling of sales of products such as baby monitors and ride-on toys, as families spent more time at home during lockdown, which was implemented in March.  

Also, with friends and families kept apart by social distancing measures during the Covid-19 pandemic, personalised gifts became a popular choice among shoppers.

To keep their children entertained while stuck at home in lockdown parents bought 124 per cent more baby bouncers and 61 per cent more rockers, while Ride-Ons saw a whopping 381 per cent increase in purchases. 

One of the other big sellers that saw a rise in popularity during lockdown was baby gates, the sales of which rose by 170 per cent.

Additionally, products such as baby carriers and baby wraps saw a 31 per cent increase in sales.

Meanwhile items of baby technology such as the Bluebell Smart Baby Monitor and the Motorola Halo+ HD Smart Video Baby Monitor also saw meteoric rises in sales, with baby monitors in particular selling well, up by 114 per cent.

It also seems that products made from sustainable materials were also favoured by parents with bedding made from 100% cotton selling 55 per cent better and wooden baby toys seeing a rise in popularity.

The data comes as John Lewis launched its ‘All Things Baby’ services which are free of charge.

Appointments for the services, both online and in store, can be booked on their website and is part of the company’s plans to modernise and replace its traditional nursery advice services.

Nev & Max Are Officially Bringing ‘Catfish’ To The UK

Nev and Max are bringing us their tracking skills, and shoulders to cry on.

Since it first aired in 2012, MTV’s Catfish has had such a profound impact that it’s found its way into everday dating language. It’s not uncommon to meet someone online, but you’ll always get that one friend who’ll ask if you’re sure you’re speaking to who you think you are. The reach of Nev and Max is unparalleled – and if you can’t get enough of the dynamic duo you’re in luck. Catfish is coming to the UK and producers are already on the look out for new stories and people to star in the first UK series.

On Oct. 2 Catfish announced it had opened casting for a new UK series. On Twitter they wrote: “Have you matched with someone online? But you’ve never met them in person? Do you want our help to reveal their true identity? If so then we can help.” When it comes to finding out information about a new crush your friends might be good, but Nev and Max are the best. Fans were thrilled to hear the news, with many pointing out that it’s been a long time coming, and others offering up their services as co-hosts.

So, here’s what we know so far. While the casting call only went out recently, it’s been reported that producers have already been hard at work trying to find daters in the UK who are sceptical about their current situationships.

Viacom Studios UK is the production company that will be bringing Catfish to our screens. On announcing the spin-off show Viacom Studios statement read: “Whether you want to finally meet your online love or friend face-to-face, have something to confess or simply want to get to the bottom of why they always cancel dates, MTV’s Catfish UK would love to hear from you."

Catfish has been a sensation since Nev Schulman released an independent film in 2010 of the same name, telling his personal story of getting tricked. The series started in the U.S. in 2012, and it’s been gripping the world ever since. There’s nothing more entertaining than the ‘will they, won’t they’ chase to find out if a catfish is who they say they are. As yet there’s been no indication of whether the UK version will have a special theme, so it’d seem the UK version will follow the same set-up.

This isn’t the first time that there have been whisperings that the Catfish team would be making a UK appearance. There were previous rumours that Catfish might be coming to the UK in Jan. 2016. However, the plans were scrapped in October of the same year.

According to reports, per The Mirror, a show source said, “There are Catfish stories all over the world and MTV are so excited to bring it to the UK. They are already finding some incredible, mysterious online dating stories that need to be told.”

While the show has put the casting call out, it hasn’t officially been confirmed and there is currently no release date. Mattel Unveils Susan B. Anthony Barbie Doll as Newest Addition to Inspiring Women Series

Election Day is approaching — and what better way to mark the occasion than with a Susan B. Anthony Barbie doll?

For Mattel's Inspiring Women Series, the company revealed a doll of Anthony in honor of her "pioneering efforts and far-reaching impact" in the fight for women's suffrage.

"On November 5, 1872, while protesting and leading the charge for women’s voting rights, Susan B. Anthony made a defiant move," the company wrote on its website. "She voted in the presidential election and was arrested at her home in Rochester, NY."

"This bold act, coupled with Susan’s determined spirit, helped pave the way for passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920, which prevents a woman from being denied the right to vote on the basis of sex," Mattel continued.

The doll has a similar appearance to the real Anthony, who died in 1906 at age 86, with her floor-length black dress accented with lace at the sleeves and bodice, a lace collar fastened with a cameo brooch, glasses and her hair pulled back into a bun.

It also comes with specially designed packaging, a doll stand and a certificate of authenticity, Mattel said.

Known as a "champion of temperance, abolition, the rights of labor and equal pay for equal work," Anthony was one of the most prominent leaders of the women’s suffrage movement in the late 19th century, said the National Women's History Museum.

Her efforts included co-creating the National Woman Suffrage Association with friend and fellow activist, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, co-founding the American Equal Rights Association and serving as co-editor of The Revolution, where she helped to promote and spread ideas of equality and rights for women, according to the museum.

Over the years, Anthony dedicated her time to giving speeches around the country, gathering signatures on petitions and lobbying Congress for women's rights — and her efforts ultimately paid off in 1920 when women were granted the right to vote in the 19th Amendment.

Unfortunately, Anthony did not live to see the milestone as she died 14 years earlier, but her legacy continues to live on today.

The Inspiring Women Series was launched by Barbie in 2018 on International Women's Day as a way to honor "historical role models who paved the way for generations of girls to dream bigger than ever before," PEOPLE previously reported.

The line was also part of an effort to close what Barbie officials called the Dream Gap, the idea that girls are less likely than boys to remain confident and view their gender as smart and competent. In order to do that, Barbie launched the Barbie Dream Gap Project, a global initiative to raise awareness around limiting factors that prevent girls from reaching their full potential.

Anthony's doll joins a number of other inspiring women icons in the line, including tennis icon Billie Jean King, activist Rosa Parks and astronaut Sally Ride. Jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald and modern nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale are also part of the series.

Each of the dolls features authentic clothing and unique accessories, plus educational information about the honoree’s contributions to society. They retail for $29.99 and are available from Target, Walmart, Amazon and Barbie.com.

Alison Hammond Is Presenting A Documentary About Overlooked Black Brits

The This Morning presenter will shed light on some lesser-known, but hugely significant figures.

In honour of Black History Month, ITV has unveiled a lineup of specially commissioned new shows throughout the month of October. This includes a brand new documentary from This Morning presenter Alison Hammond, who is set to explore some overlooked aspects of British history.

Travelling to key historical sites across Britain, including Hadrian’s Wall and Hampton Court, Alison Hammond: Back To School will see the beloved TV personality head out on "the ultimate school history trip with a twist" — during which she uncovers Black figures from years gone by, many of whom played a significant role in shaping the history of the nation, but have been left out of the British history books. As the Radio Times reports, the ITV special will also explore the current teaching curriculum of history in schools in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement, which sparked calls for urgent educational reform from many.

With the assistance of experts, some of the lesser-known historical figures brought to the forefront by Hammond include the first Black professional footballer and first Black officer in the British Army to lead white soldiers Walter Tull, the British-Jamaican nurse Mary Seacole, the inventor of three-light traffic light Garrett Morgan, and more, iNews reports.

Joining Back to School on ITV’s lineup of Black History Month programming is the brand new panel show Sorry, I Didn’t Know, which showcases diverse up-and-coming comedians as they provide a tongue-in-cheek approach to the lack of knowledge surrounding Black history in the UK. Elsewhere, viewers can also look forward to the one-off documentary Black Comedy Legends, as well as Charlene and Friends, which is scheduled to air simultaneously on ITV and CITV, the Radio Times reports.

"These programmes span Factual, Entertainment, and Children’s in an effort to reach out to viewers across the board at all levels," said Satmohan Panesar, who has overseen commissioning for ITV’s Black History Month schedule. “We hope viewers will enjoy the incredible stories, wonderful entertainment and fascinating people they focus on as we look at Britain from a vital and different perspective and celebrate the contribution of Black people to Britain’s story, our culture and our lives."

Alison Hammond: Back to School airs on Tuesday October 6 at 9 p.m. on ITV.

Skai paid tribute to her dear friend, the late Cameron Boyce, with a stunning foxtrot to John Legend’s “Ordinary People.” HollywoodLife talked EXCLUSIVELY with Skai and Alan about the poignant performance.

“It was difficult, but I was just so glad that I got to do it,” Skai told HollywoodLife. “It was really important to me, really special to me, so I’m glad that the whole world got to see it and just get to see how much I loved him and how much he was such a special person.”

Skai and Cameron grew up together on the Disney Channel show Jessie. Skai revealed why she chose “Ordinary People” as the song to dedicate to Cameron.

“I mean, overall, it’s just a great song, but Cameron loved that song,” Skai said. “There’s a little clip of him just like singing the song. When I saw that clip, it was just so amazing to me how I mean… he was such a beautiful singer. He was just kind of like not even being serious. So I was like, I definitely want to use that song and dedicate this song to him because I know he likes John Legend, and I think he would just be amazed by it.”

Alan, 26, choreographed their dance and revealed how he crafted this special number. “I wanted the main part of the dance to be the emotions surrounding Skai and Cameron, and I feel like the Skai handled the choreography perfectly and was able to turn these steps into a beautiful dance,” Alan told HollywoodLife. “Without her emotions, it would just be steps. I feel like she really connected to the dance and really gave everything she has. And that’s why it turned out to be so beautiful.”

Skai and Alan’s performance earned them the highest score of the season so far: 28 out of 30. Carrie Ann Inaba gave Skai and Alan their very first 10. “It feels so crazy,” Skai said about getting the first 10 of the season. “I’m just so excited. I can’t believe that I did get a 10. I wasn’t expecting that. So just to get it was just mind-blowing to me.” Dancing With the Stars season 29 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.

Actress Glenn Close gave fans an early look at her Halloween costume on Instagram on Oct. 5. The 73-year-old star posted a photo of herself as Cruella De Vil from the live-action version of 101 Dalmatians. Glenn played the iconic role in the 1996 film, alongside Jeff Daniels as Roger and Joely Richardson as Anita Radciffe. 

"Suiting up for BETTE MIDLER'S virtual HOCUS HALLOWEEN fundraiser for her remarkable NEW YORK RESTORATION PROJECT," read the caption. "I'll be sure to post an invitation when I can. These pictures and video were shot by Seonaid "Sho" Campbell."

Bette's annual Halloween costume fundraiser is normally a star-studded party, however due to the coronavirus, this year's party will be a virtual gathering and a reunion with Hocus Pocus cast members Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, aka the Sanderson sisters. 

Glenn not only provided a bit of nostalgia with her post, the veteran actress also gave her followers a mini tutorial on how she created the legendary look.

RS Charts: Youngboy Never Broke Again Bests Drake for Third Straight Week on Artists 500

Youngboy Never Broke Again held off Drake, while Machine Gun Kelly and Joji leapt into the Top 10 of the Artists 500 chart for the week of September 25th through October 1st.

Youngboy Never Broke Again secured his third week at Number One with 116.4 million streams. His latest album, Top, continued to perform well, landing at Number Seven on the Top 200 Albums chart with 61.6 million song streams to help it move 42,400 album-equivalent units.

Drake’s numbers remained steady, too, as he picked up 111.6 million song streams. And Pop Smoke, Juice WRLD and Taylor Swift once again filled out the rest of the top five in that order with 109.4 million, 97.2 million and 79.6 million song streams respectively.

Machine Gun Kelly, however, helped shake up the Top 10 with the arrival of his new album Tickets to My Downfall. The musician jumped from Number 95 to Number Six, pulling in 73.5 million streams as Tickets to My Downfall debuted at Number One on the RS 200. Machine Gun Kelly’s collaboration with Halsey from the album, “Forget Me Too,” also bowed at Number 15 on the Top 100 Songs chart with 8.7 million streams.

Coming in behind MGK was Japanese-Australian R&B singer Joji, who climbed even further up the chart, from Number 138 to Number Seven. The singer picked up 66.2 million song streams as his sophomore album, Nectar, debuted at Number Three on the RS 200 with  move 93,200 album units.

The Rolling Stone Artists 500 chart ranks the most-streamed artists of the week in the United States, taking into account audio streams across an artist’s entire catalog during the tracking period. The chart does not include passive listening such as terrestrial radio or digital radio. The Artists 500 is updated daily, and each week Rolling Stone finalizes and publishes an official version of the chart, covering the seven-day period ended the previous Thursday.

Outside the Top 10, Tory Lanez rose to Number 11 with 56.3 million streams following the release of his new album, Daystar. And Lil Peep saw a bump as well, going from Number 43 to Number 20 with 42.6 million streams after his 2016 mixtape, Hellboy, was finally released on streaming services.

Meet The Women Who Might Be On Matt James’ Season Of ‘The Bachelor’

Which one will get Bachelor Nation’s First Impression rose?

There are still quite a few months to go until fans get to see the new Bachelor fall in love, but thankfully, ABC is offering up a first look at some of Matt James’ potential Bachelor contestants a little bit early. On Tuesday, Oct. 6, the franchise shared a preview of some of the women who "may be on this season of The Bachelor" on Facebook, encouraging fans to share which one would get their First Impression rose.

There isn’t a great deal of information available about these potential contestants — fans are judging solely on their names, ages, hometowns, and photos — but based on first impressions, it seems like Matt may have indeed gotten his wish for a more diverse Bachelor season, as 28 of the 43 women who were revealed on Facebook are non-white. "I’m hoping that when that limo pulls up, there’s a lot of diversity and I see every type of woman coming out of that limo," he told Good Morning America back in June.

On his social media accounts, blogger Reality Steve offered up some more details about this particularly diverse group of potential contestants, including the fact that Mariela Pepin competed against two of Peter’s women in the 2019 Miss America pageant. She’s not the only pageant girl in the running, either; Catalina Morales is reportedly a former Miss Universe Puerto Rico, although according to her Instagram bio, she now works as an attorney.

In addition to the pageant queens, there are plenty of other women worth keeping an eye out for when Matt’s season premieres in early January, including travel blogger Kim Li — who could bond with the ABC Food Tours founder over a shared love of travel and food — Ethiopian native Magi Tareke, who works as a model and a pharmacist, and Kit Keenan, the youngest potential contestant — she’s 21 — who hosts a podcast with her mother called Ageless.

And while the women revealed on Facebook haven’t even officially been cast on Matt’s season, there’s already some potential drama brewing amongst Bachelor fans. According to a Twitter post from Reality Steve, Matt and one of the contestants, Madison Nelson, may have actually dated during the summer of 2019. "Apparently [she] was dating Matt last summer when Tyler [Cameron] was seeing Gigi Hadid]," he wrote, adding that the Indiana native reportedly "went to one of the fashion shows with him … [I] heard they were together for at least a couple months."

If his report is true, it seems like Madison may have a leg up over some of the other contestants, having already met Matt’s best friend and gotten Tyler’s seal of approval. Back in June, the former Bachelorette contestant told Chris Harrison that he already has a good idea of the type of woman he’d like to see Matt end up with at the end of his time on the show. "I think what you’re going to look for is someone who kind of resembles his mother," Tyler said during an episode of The Bachelor: The Greatest Seasons — Ever!

"His mother is one of the sweetest ladies, very loving, caring, compassionate, ready to serve others, help out in the community." He continued by adding that his best friend needs "someone who is ready to get on the ground with Matt and change the world, because that’s what Matt is going to do. Matt’s going to change the world. And [he needs] someone that’s going to take on that challenge with him."
